وفي بلاغ صحفي مؤرخ في 14 كانون الثاني/يناير 2009، حذّر صندوق الأمم المتحدة للسكان من أن العنف والتشريد المتواصلين يمثِّلان خطراً كبيراً على أكثر من 000 40 امرأة حامل في غزة، وأفاد وقوع العديد من حالات المخاض والولادة السابقة لأوانها بسبب الصدمة والكرب الناجمين عن القصف المتواصل، وتعرُّض المواليد الخدّج والمواليد الجدد لانخفاض الحرارة بسبب انقطاع الكهرباء.

In a press release dated 14 January 2009, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) warned that the continuing violence and displacement presented serious risks to more than 40,000 pregnant women in Gaza, and reported on many cases of premature labour and delivery resulting from shock and trauma from continuous bombing, and the exposure of premature and newborn infants to hypothermia owing to the lack of electricity.

En un comunicado de prensa de 14 de enero de 2009, el Fondo de Población de las Naciones Unidas (UNFPA) advirtió que la persistente violencia y los desplazamientos planteaban graves riesgos a más de 40.000 embarazadas en Gaza e informó sobre numerosos casos de alumbramientos prematuros resultantes de choques y traumas causados por el persistente bombardeo y de exposición a la hipotermia de niños prematuros y recién nacidos debido a la falta de electricidad.
