وفقا لتقرير أصدرته منظمة الأمم المتحدة للطفولة (اليونيسيف) في آذار/مارس 2014، يجري سحب المياه الجوفية في غزة بوتيرة أسرع من وتيرة تجددها طبيعيا، وتسربت مياه البحر من البحر الأبيض المتوسط إلى المياه الجوفية فزادت من ملوحتها وجعلتها غير صالحة للشرب.

According to a report issued by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in March 2014, groundwater in Gaza is being drawn at a higher rate than natural replenishment, and sea water from the Mediterranean has infiltrated the groundwater, raising the salinity to unsafe levels.
