The opposing grounds given by the Municipality of Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse are based, among other things, on the decrease in safety at the two level crossings of Highway 279, even with improvements to the signals; the transportation of dangerous goods by the Ultratrain; the proximity of the relocated wye-track to the urban perimeter of the municipality; the fact that the new connecting track will run in an area with strong farming potential; and the impact of accidents and spills on the municipality given the path of the prevailing winds.

Les motifs d'opposition de la Municipalité de Saint-Charles-de-Bellechasse portent, entre autres choses, sur la diminution de la sécurité aux deux passages à niveau de la route 279, même si l'on devait y en améliorer la signalisation; sur le transport de marchandises dangereuses par l'Ultratrain; sur la proximité du triangle de virage ainsi déplacé au périmètre urbain de la municipalité; sur le fait que la nouvelle voie de raccordement passerait dans un secteur à potentiel agricole élevé; et sur les répercussions d'accidents et de déversements sur la municipalité, compte tenu de l'axe des vents dominants.
