Kircher's illustration in Musurgia universalis (1650), long thought to be a fanciful representation of a hypothetical possibility, has been found to be accurate in every detail when compared to the organ grotto at the Quirinale, except that it was reversed left to right.

Athanasius Kircher’s illustratie in het boek Musurgia universalis (1650) werd lang beschouwd als een fantasierijke representatie van een hypothetische mogelijkheid, maar blijkt nu een getrouwe weergave te zijn in elk detail van een werkend waterorgel, wanneer het vergeleken wordt met een orgel uit de grot in Quirinale, met slechts 1 verschil: de tekening ws in spiegelbeeld.
