Data privacy will remain a central issue, and the EU must ensure that its cybercrime initiatives are consistent both with the EU Data Protection Directive and the human rights standards that have evolved through the practice of the European Court on Human Rights under the European Convention on Human Rights and its Protocols, together with other relevant human rights instruments, in particular Article 10 of the European Convention and Article 19 of the UN Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
