وكانت النتيجة المنطقية لهذا التصرف الذي يتسم بالتحدي هو انتفاضة الشعب في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة، التي أدت، إلى جانب العصيان المسلح المستمر منذ شهرين، إلى موت المئات كما خلفت آلاف الجرحى، وعلى الأخص بين الفلسطينيين.
