كما يتضح من السجل الرسمي لجلسة الجمعية العامة، المعقودة في 25 أيلول/سبتمبر 2007 (A/62/PV.5)، فإن نيستور كيرشنر رئيس الأرجنتين أشار في خطابه أمام الجمعية العامة، في جملة أمور، إلى الأهمية المستمرة التي تكتسيها مسألة جزر مالفيناس بالنسبة للأرجنتين، بما فيها جزر ساوث جورجيا وساوث ساندويتش، فضلا عن المناطق البحرية المحيطة بتلك الجزر:

As reflected in the official record of the meeting of the General Assembly, on 25 September 2007 (A/62/PV.5), the President of Argentina, Néstor Kirchner, in his address to the General Assembly, inter alia flagged the continuing importance to Argentina of the question of the Falkland Islands (Malvinas), including South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands, as well as the maritime areas surrounding those islands:
