Aux pareils de Ménon et d'Anytos, il enseigne par sa vie, par ses actes (erga), sans se mettre en contradiction avec ses paroles (logoi), mais en montrant au contraire la cohérence qui doit exister dans la vie entre logoi et erga, entre discours et actes (une affirmation, et un objectif, que l'on trouve énoncés dans de nombreux dialogues, et tout particulièrement dans le Criton, où le prix à payer pour s'y tenir est le plus élevé).
