Beim Erreichen der Nachrichten über diesen Aufstand schrieb der König an den Schatzmeister, "Wir haben eine Verbindung des barbarischen Aufstand zu Edinburgh gesehen, welchen ihr sandtet zu Eurem Sekretär und geben Euch herzlichen Dank für die Schmerzen, die ihr nahmt, um denselbigen zu befridiegen und sind hoch beleidigt, dass Demütigung, wie ihr schriebt, einem solchen Hauptbeamten von Euch und anderen von unserem Rat angetan worden sein und wir zweifeln nicht, ihr nehmt Beachtung von diesen, die die Autoren oder Mitschuldige davon waren, das über angemessen wir nehmen solchen Befehl, wie die Natur von solch einem außergewöhnlichen Verbrechen es erfordert."

On receiving the tidings respecting this riot the King wrote to the Treasurer, ‘We have seen a relation of that barbarous insurrection at Edinburgh, which you sent vnto our Secretarie, and doe give you hartie thanks for the paines you tooke to pacifie the same, and are highly offended that such an indignitie as you wreate of should have been offered to such an chief officer of ours, and others of our Councell, and we do not doubt but you have taken notice of them that were authours or accessory therevnto, that vpon due tryall wee may take such order therewith, as the nature of such an exorbitant cryme doth require."
