Spinal deviations are common amongst patients suffering from syringomyelia or a Chiari malformation type I. Two types of spinal curvatures are associated with Chiari malformations: scoliosis, a lateral bending of the spinal column to the left or to the right, and kyphosis, a forward bending of the spinal column.
