جاء في تقرير مكتب التقييم المستقل التابع للصندوق المعنون ”أداء صندوق النقد الدولي في الفترة التي سبقت الأزمة المالية والاقتصادية“، 10 كانون الثاني/يناير 2011، أن ”تحليلات الصندوق والنماذج الاقتصادية التي استعان بها أخفقت في أن تضع يدها على المخاطر الجمة التي تتراكم في النظم المالية“.
