El Torneo Invierno 1996 fue el primer torneo corto del fútbol mexicano. En este torneo llegaron como refuerzos Jared Borgetti y el chileno Cristián Montecinos. Se terminó en la segunda posición de la tabla, durante el torneo regular solo se perdieron tres encuentros y se logró la calificación a la liguilla por tercera vez.
