In the following figure we show the variation of the residual chlorine in terms of the added chlorine for a general hypothetical case: In the first stage, the oxidation of reducing substances, mainly inorganic ones, takes place: Fe 2+, Mn 2+, H2S,... All the hypochlorite added is consumed, whereby there is no available chlorine.

En la figura de la página siguiente se muestra la variación de la cantidad de cloro residual en función del cloro añadido para un caso hipotético general. En una primera etapa, se produce la oxidación de substancias reductoras, principalmente inorgánicas: Fe 2+, Mn 2+, H2S,...
