An alternative suggestion for their formation, viz., that the bands develop naturally as part of the precipitate aging sequence, is proposed and tested by examination of the structures, using transmission electron microscopy, in Al-4% Cu and Al-5.57%Zn-2.50%Mg alloys both before and after cycling.

Une autre hypothèse est formulée, selon laquelle les bandes se forment d'une manière purement naturelle sous l'effet d'un vieillissement progressif.
