২০০৯ সালের ২৬শে মে স্টেডিয়ামটি উদবোধন করা হয় । পশ্চিম অস্ট্রেলিয়ার প্রধানমন্ত্রী,কলিন বার্নেট, নিজে উপস্থিত থেকে এর শুভ সূচনা ঘোষনা করেন ।তখন সূচনা হিসেবে ১০০ মিটার দৌড় প্রতিযোগিতার আয়োজন করা হয় । বিপুল সংখ্যক দর্শক তা উপভোগ করেন ।

The opening ceremony was conducted on 26 May 2009, by the Premier of Western Australia, Colin Barnett, and included ceremonial activities to acknowledge the Aboriginal landowners as well as an inaugural 100m sprint event.
