Debido a este hecho se ha multiplicado el vertido de nutrientes y materia orgánica en los últimos años y ha ido cogiendo fuerza la acuicultura multitròfica integrada para disminuir el impacto ambiental aprovechando los nutrientes y la materia orgánica para el cultivo de especies de eliminación de nutrientes disueltos excretados por los peces y aprovechados para el crecimiento de las algas.
