The Inter-American Commission on Commercial Arbitration, which has its origins in Resolution XLI on Commercial Arbitration, adopted by the Seventh International Conference of American States, held in Montevideo (Uruguay) in 1933, at which it was agreed that, in order to establish closer ties among the Trade Associations of the Americas, with absolute independence from official controls, an Inter-American body needed to be created to assume, as one of its most important functions, the responsibility for setting up an Inter-American arbitration system.

En este desarrollo y esfuerzo, ha jugado un papel muy importante la Comisión Interamericana de Arbitraje Comercial, la cual tuvo su origen en la Resolución XLI sobre Arbitraje Comercial, adoptada por la Séptima Conferencia Internacional de Estados Americanos que se celebró en Montevideo (Uruguay) en 1933, que acordó que, con el fin de establecer relaciones aún más estrechas entre la Asociaciones Comerciales de las Américas de manera totalmente independiente del control oficial, debía ser creado un organismo interamericano para que asumiese, como una de sus funciones más importantes, la responsabilidad de establecer un sistema de arbitraje interamericano.
