English[en]
It appears that the name Garachico comes from the Guanche root "igara" (island) together with " chico " (little). The development of the urban centre is limited by the enormous cliff; however, there are 5,742 inhabitants (according to the Canary Institute of Statistics (Istac) in 2002) who reside in the villages of San Juan del Reparo, Genovés, La Montañeta , Las Cruces , San Pedro, El Guincho and La Caleta.
Spanish[es]
El nombre de Garachico, según parece, está ligado a su roque, formándose a partir de la raíz guanche "igara" -isla-, que se une a "chico".
