Spectral features observed at 195.5 and 181.0 cm−1 in the far infrared spectrum of the gas have been assigned to the and of the methyl torsion of the ethyl group of the trans form, from which a barrier of 868 ± 3 cm−1 (2.48 ± 0.01 kcal/mol) is calculated.

On a observé des caractéristiques spéciales à 195,5 et 181,0 cm−1 dans le spectre infrarouge lointain du produit gazeux; on les a attribuées aux torsions et du méthyle présent dans la forme trans du groupe éthyle; à partir de ces données, on a pu calculer que la barrière à cette torsion est égale à 868 ± 3 cm−1 (2,48 ± 0,01 kcal/mol).
