The player begins the game by choosing four characters to form a party and is locked into that choice for the duration of the game.[6] Each character has an "occupation", or character class, with different attributes and abilities that are either innate or can be acquired.[6] There are six classes: Fighter, Thief, Black Belt, Red Mage, White Mage, and Black Mage.[6] Later in the game, the player has the option to have each character undergo a "class upgrade"; whereby their sprite portraits mature, and some classes gain the ability to use weapons and magic that they previously could not use.[4] The game contains a variety of weapons, armor, and items that can be bought or found to make the characters more powerful in combat.

Personajes[editar] Cada personaje tiene una "ocupación" o clase, con atributos diferentes y habilidades que son innatas o pueden ser adquiridas.[5] Hay seis clases iniciales: Guerrero, Ladrón, Monje, Mago Rojo, Maga Blanca y Mago Negro.[5] Posteriormente en el juego, cada personaje mejora la clase inicial, de la misma naturaleza, pero más avanzado; su figura muestra madurez y adquieren la habilidad de usar armas y magia que antes no podían usar.[4] El juego contiene una variedad de armas, armaduras y objetos que pueden ser comprados o encontrados para volver al personaje más poderoso en combate.
