In 2010, the North stressed the so-called "Kim Il-sung doctrine" in the introduction of the Statute of the Workers' Party to solidify the supreme leader system. The introduction is regarded in North Korea as the preamble to the Constitution.

그러나 1972년 사회주의 헌법에서 주체사상을 국가 활동의 지침으로 명시한 북한은 1980년, 김일성의 주체사상을 공식 지도 이념으로 규정했다. 2010년에도 헌법 전문과 마찬가지인 조선 노동당 규약 서문에서 김일성 주의를 강조하면서 북한식 수령 체제를 공고히 했다.
