Parmi ces institutions, comme parmi d'autres semblables et plus anciennes, il faut mentionner en premier lieu celles qui, tout en suivant diverses méthodes, ont été très fécondes pour le Règne du Christ: recommandées et favorisées à juste titre par les Papes et de nombreux Evêques, elles ont reçu d'eux le nom d'Action Catholique; elles ont été le plus souvent décrites comme une collaboration des laïcs à l'apostolat hiérarchique (8).
