وقد ثبت أن الإجراءات المشتركة في إطار السياسات التي تقوم بها الحكومات والمجتمع الدولي والمنظمات غير الحكومية من حيث توفير إمكانية الحصول على المياه وخدمات الصرف الصحي، والتنمية، وإصلاح البنية الأساسية، وإدارة الموارد الطبيعية، كانت ناجحة للغاية في الحد من الفقر في الريف.
