But generally, the surface ocean is never very far from gas equilibrium with the atmosphere, with typical oxygen saturations in the surface ranging between 95% (undersaturated) and 110% (supersaturated). Labrador Current Water (LCW) flowing along the southern edge of the Grand Banks of Newfoundland, a "young" water mass that had direct gas exchange with the atmosphere during the previous year, is an important component of the water mass entering the mouth of the Laurentian Channel. But only part of the water entering the Laurentian Channel consists of Labrador Current Water (LCW).

Généralement, la surface de l’océan n’est jamais très loin de l’équilibre gazeux avec l’atmosphère, les taux de saturation en oxygène variant typiquement de 95 % (sous-saturés) à 110 % (sursaturés). L’eau du courant du Labrador longeant la bordure sud des Grands Bancs de Terre-Neuve, une masse d’eau « jeune » ayant eu un échange direct de gaz avec l’atmosphère au cours de l’année précédente, représente une importante composante de la masse d’eau pénétrant dans l’embouchure du chenal Laurentien. Cependant, l’eau du courant du Labrador ne représente qu’une partie de l’eau qui entre dans le chenal Laurentien.
