The maritime security provisions of chapter XI-2 of the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea and the International Code are part of a wider initiative for maritime law enforcement, border control and counter-terrorism, including action by the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the Security Council through resolution 1373 (2001); coordination with other United Nations entities and INTERPOL through the Counter-Terrorism Implementation Task Force; cooperation with the World Customs Organization on container security; and joint initiatives with the International Labour Organization on port security and identification documents.

Durante el período del que se informa, el Centro Regional de las Naciones Unidas para la Paz y el Desarme en África, a solicitud del Comité Consultivo Permanente Encargado de las Cuestiones de Seguridad en África Central, prestó asistencia sustantiva y técnica en la redacción de la Convención de Kinshasa. El Centro ayudó a los Estados de África Occidental a actualizar y armonizar sus leyes internas sobre el control de las armas pequeñas y ligeras.

Les dispositions de sûreté maritime figurant au chapitre XI-2 de la Convention internationale pour la sauvegarde de la vie humaine en mer et le Code international s’inscrivent dans une initiative plus vaste de répression des infractions au droit maritime, de contrôle des frontières et de lutte contre le terrorisme, concrétisée par les activités du Comité contre le terrorisme créé par la résolution 1373 (2001) du Conseil de sécurité; la coordination avec les autres entités des Nations Unies et INTERPOL, par l’intermédiaire de l’Équipe spéciale de lutte contre le terrorisme; la coopération avec l’Organisation mondiale des douanes pour la sûreté des conteneurs; et les initiatives conjointes menées avec l’Organisation internationale du travail concernant la sécurité portuaire et les documents d’identification.

Положения о безопасности на море, содержащиеся в главе XI‐2 Международной конвенции по охране человеческой жизни на море, являются элементом более широкой инициативы по осуществлению правоохранительной деятельности на море, пограничного контроля и противодействию терроризму, включая меры, принимаемые Контртеррористическим комитетом Совета Безопасности на базе резолюции 1373 (2001); координацию с другими структурами Организации Объединенных Наций и Интерполом через посредство Целевой группы по осуществлению контртеррористических мероприятий; сотрудничество со Всемирной таможенной организацией в вопросах обеспечения безопасности контейнеров; и совместные с Международной организацией труда инициативы, касающиеся обеспечения портовой безопасности и идентификационных документов.
