Según su informe anual “Estado mundial de los cultivos transgénicos/genéticamente modificados (GM) comercializados en 2016”, la adopción de cultivos GM aumentó unas 110 veces a nivel global en tan solo 21 años de comercialización, desde las primeras 1,7 millones de hectáreas en 1996 a las 185,1 millones de hectáreas en 2016.
