The Sierra de Gata mountains and El Valle de las Pilas (Las Pilas Valley) are also home to the rare Iberian lynx, which shares its habitat with black vultures, golden eagles and Egyptian vultures, birds of prey that breed in such mountainous regions, as well as two kinds of reptiles (the Mediterranean pond terrapin and water lizards), four species of fish, eight kinds of bats and two types of invertebrates (the stag beetle and a butterfly known as the marsh fritillary).

Y es allí, en esta Sierra de Gata y en el Valle de las Pilas donde parece tener morada el lince ibérico, que comparte territorio con el buitre negro, el águila real y el alimoche, rapaces que aprovechan las zonas serranas para la cría, además de con dos clases de reptiles (el galápago leproso y el lagarto verdinegro), cuatro especies de peces, ocho de quirópteros y dos tipos de invertebrados (el ciervo volante y una mariposa llamada doncella de la madreselva).
