Papyrus from Egypt was made by putting together long laminated slices from the plant to create sheets; the so called Rice Paper from Formosa was made unrolling the tissue inside the trunk of the Fatsia Papyrifera tree, so it is not paper neither is made from rice; parchment and vellum were made from animal skins.
