In this zone, Canada will not only have jurisdiction for exploring and exploiting, conserving and managing all the living and non-living resources of the waters, seabed and subsoil. Canada's jurisdiction in this zone will cover economic activity and will also cover marine scientific research, protection and preservation of the marine environment and artificial islands, installations and structures.

Dans cette zone, le Canada aura pleine compétence non seulement sur l'exploration et l'exploitation, la conservation et la gestion de toutes les ressources biotiques et non biotiques des eaux, des fonds et du sous-sol marins, mais encore sur toute activité économique, sans compter la recherche scientifique marine, la protection et la préservation du milieu marin, des îles, des installations et des structures artificielles.
