Beide Begriffe hätten im deutschen Recht eine unterschiedliche Bedeutung: Unter „Kündigung“ werde die auf die Auflösung des Arbeitsverhältnisses gerichtete einseitige Willenserklärung einer der Arbeitsvertragsparteien verstanden, während unter „Entlassung“ die tatsächliche Beendigung des Arbeitsverhältnisses aufgrund arbeitgeberseitiger Kündigung verstanden werde.

The first corresponds to a unilateral declaration by one of the parties to a contract of employment of its intention to put an end to the employment relationship. The second concept corresponds to the actual cessation of the employment relationship by reason of the termination of the contract of employment decided on by the employer.
