He was the outstanding martyr for Catholic faith and unity at that period, but not the only one; not a few both of the clergy and the laity received the same palm of victory after him; some were slain with the sword, some atrociously flogged to death, some drowned in the Dnieper, so passing from their triumph over death to heaven.

Fu egli invero a quel tempo il principale martire della fede cattolica e dell'unità, ma non il solo; perché non pochi altri lo seguirono con la palma della vittoria, tanto ecclesiastici quanto laici che, o uccisi di spada o flagellati spietatamente fino a morire o affogati nelle acque del Dniepr, dal trionfo della morte passarono tra i santi del cielo.

Praecipuus ille quidem eo tempore fuit, sed non unus, catholicae fidei unitatisque martyr; nam eum non pauci ad eiusdem victoriae palmam secuti sunt cum ex sacro, tum ex laicorum ordine qui vel ferro necati, vel flagellis ad obitum usque atrociter contusi, vel in Danapro flumine aqua submersi, ex triumphata morte ad super os evolarunt.
