বীমাখাতের সুষ্ঠু নিয়ন্ত্রণ ও তত্ত্বাবধান, বীমা পলিসি গ্রাহক ও পলিসির অধীনে উপকারভােগীদের স্বার্থ সংরক্ষণ, বীমাখাতের আর্থিক ভিত্তি শক্তিশালীকরণ এবং এ খাত পরিচালনায় সক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধির জন্য বিদ্যমান বীমা অধিদপ্তরকে বীমা আইনের সাথে সামঞ্জস্যপূর্ণ করার লক্ষ্যে ‘বীমা উন্নয়ন ও নিয়ন্ত্রণ কর্তৃপক্ষ আইন, ২০১০ ' বিলটি বাংলাদেশ জাতীয় সংসদে অনুমােদিত হয়েছে ।

In order to synchronize the activities of the existing ' Insurance Department with Insurance Act, to maintain proper control and supervision of the sector, to protect the interests of policy holders and beneficiaries under insurance policies, to strengthen the financial base of insurance sector and to enhance the capacity to manage the sector, a law titled ' Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority Act 2010' has been enacted in Parliament.
