Kabul is the most ethnically diverse city in the country, with the population including Afghans from all over the country.[111] In 2003, the National Geographic Channel reported that Kabul's population was composed of the following ethnic groups: 45% Tajik, 25% Hazara , 25% Pashtun, 2% Uzbek , 1% Baloch , 1% Turkmen , and 1% Afghan Hindu.[2] The Dari (Persian) and Pashto languages are widely used in the region, although Dari serves as the lingua franca .
