This document was prepared by the three institutions of the Tripartite Committee (the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean – ECLAC -, the Trade Unit of the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States – OAS -, and the Inter-American Development Bank - IDB) with the purpose of making a publicly available tool for comparing the legal texts of two recent North-South trade agreements in the Americas, namely, the Free Trade Agreement between Chile and the United States (hereinafter the “Chile-U.S. FTA”), and the Dominican Republic-Central America-United States Free Trade Agreement (hereinafter “DR-CAFTA”). The document consists of two main parts: a comparative study of the provisions in the Agreements and a comparative –side-by-side- matrix of the legal texts of the Agreements.

Este documento fue preparado por las tres instituciones del Comité Tripartito (Comisión Económica de las Naciones Unidas para América Latina y el Caribe – CEPAL, la Unidad de Comercio de la Secretaría General de la Organización de los Estados Americanos – OEA- y el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo – BID con el propósito de proporcionar una herramienta disponible públicamente para efectos de comparar los textos legales de los dos recientes Tratados comerciales Norte – Sur de las Américas, valga decir, el Tratado de Libre Comercio entre Chile y Estados Unidos (en adelante denominado “TLC Chile – Estados Unidos”) y el Tratado de Libre Comercio entre la República Ambas partes están vinculadas electrónicamente de tal manera que el usuario puede leer la comparación y devolverse a las disposiciones vinculadas en las matrices marcando con la flecha del cursor el encabezado del texto.
