Some of the anatomical features associated with this dimorphism are related to the orientation of the shoot with regard to light, e.g., the abaxial epidermis of the small dorsal leaves and the adaxial epidermis of the large ventral leaves consist of conical cells of approximately the same size containing a single cup-shaped plastid.
