An internal combustion engine is described having a valve mechanism which comprises a gas exchange poppet valve (14), a camshaft (10) rotatable in synchronism with the engine crankshaft and having a cam (12) for operating the valve (14), a valve actuator (20) acting on the poppet valve (14) to open and close the valve, and an intermediate rocker (30) having a follower (34) acted upon by the cam (12) and a contoured surface (36) that acts on the valve actuator (20) to open and close the valve (14) in synchronism with the rotation of the cam (12), the intermediate rocker (30) having a pivot axis that is movable in order to vary the valve lift.

La présente invention a trait à un moteur à combustion interne comportant un mécanisme de levée des soupapes comprenant un clapet d'échange de gaz (14), un arbre à cames (10) en rotation synchronisée avec le vilebrequin du moteur et comprenant une came (12) pour faire fonctionner le clapet (14), un actionneur (20) agissant sur le clapet (14) pour l'ouverture et la fermeture du clapet, et un culbuteur intermédiaire (30) incluant un galet suiveur (34) sur lequel agit la came (12) et une surface profilée (36) agissant sur l'actionneur (20) pour l'ouverture et la fermeture de la soupape (14) en synchronisme avec la rotation de la came (12), le culbuteur intermédiaire (30) comprenant un axe de pivotement qui est mobile pour faire varier la levée des soupapes.
