Disclosed are an apparatus and a method preventing a water pipe from freezing, capable of preventing a water pipe from freezing regardless of the operation of a human or variations in a time zone or outdoor temperature by detecting the temperature of the water in the water pipe and discharging a predetermined amount of water from the water pipe prior to freezing of the water.

용수 배관 내 물의 온도를 검출하여 물이 결빙되기 이전에 용수 배관 내 물을 사전 설정된 양 만큼 배출시킴으로써 사람의 조작이나 시간 대 또는 외부 기온의 변화에 상관 없이 용수 배관의 동결을 방지할 수 있는 용수 배관 동결 방지 장치 및 방법이 개시된다. 상기 용수 배관 동결 방지 장치는, 용수 배관 내 물의 온도를 검출하는 온도 검출 센서; 상기 온도 검출 센서를 통과한 물이 흐르는 용수 배관에 설치되는 밸브; 및 상기 온도 검출 센서부에 의해 검출된 물의 온도에 따라 용수 배관 내 물의 결빙 시작 여부를 판단하고, 결빙이 시작된 것으로 판단한 경우 상기 밸브를 개방하도록 상기 밸브를 제어하는 제어부를 포함한다.
