Recent SDM meta-analyses of voxel-based morphometry studies comparing people with OCD and healthy controls has found people with OCD to have increased grey matter volumes in bilateral lenticular nuclei, extending to the caudate nuclei, while decreased grey matter volumes in bilateral dorsal medial frontal/anterior cingulate cortex.

งานวิเคราะห์อภิมานในปี ค.ศ. 2009 ที่ใช้วิธีวิเคราะห์ทางสถิติแบบ Signed differential mapping ของงานศึกษาที่ใช้เทคนิค voxel-based morphometry ซึ่งเปรียบเทียบคนไข้ OCD กับคนปกติ พบว่า คนไข้มีปริมาณเนื้อเทามากขึ้นใน lenticular nucleus ในสมองทั้งสองซีก ขยายไปจนถึง caudate nuclei และมีปริมาณเนื้อเทาที่ลดลงใน medial frontal cortex/anterior cingulate cortex ทางด้านล่าง (dorsal) ในสมองทั้งสองซีก
