The data obtained in this work, along with the information available from the literature, show that the genus Vernonia in South America is heterogeneous with basic chromosome numbers that range between x=9 and x=19.

Los datos obtenidos en el presente trabajo, junto con la información aportada por estudios previos, muestran que en América el género es heterogéneo y que los números básicos mas frecuentes son x=9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 17.
