Schon in der Bronze- und Hallstattzeit war das Gebiet über dem Wertachufer am Rand der Hochterrasse besiedelt, ebenso finden sich Siedlungs- und Grabfunde aus der Römerzeit vom 1. bis zum 4. Jahrhundert.

The area surrounding the banks of the Wertach is known to have been settled since at least the Bronze Age during the Hallstatt culture, and evidence of settlements and burials in the area date back to between the 1st and 4th centuries AD.
