Stress and violence in the hospital and psychiatric sector have also been the subject of numerous studies over the past 10 years (Duxbury and Whittington, 2005; Jansen, Dassen and Groot Jebbink, 2005; Johnson, 2004; LeBlanc and Kelloway, 2002; Schat and Kelloway, 2005; Bell, Green, Fisher and Baum, 2001; Kiely and Pankhurst, 1998; Beale, Cox and Leather, 1996; Whittington, Shuttleworth and Hill, 1996), but there has been very little research conducted on staff working in corrections, although the literature on prisons does include some studies on physical violence among inmates.

Le stress et la violence dans le secteur hospitalier et psychiatrique font également l'objet de nombreuses recherches depuis les dix dernières années (Duxbury et Whittington, 2005; Jansen, Dassen et Groot Jebbink, 2005; Johnson, 2004; LeBlanc et Kelloway, 2002; Schat et Kelloway, 2005; Bell, Green, Fisher et Baum, 2001; Kiely et Pankhurst, 1998; Beale, Cox et Leather, 1996; Whittington, Shuttleworth et Hill, 1996), mais il y en a très peu sur le personnel oeuvrant dans le domaine carcéral (exception faite de la violence physique entre détenus et qui s'intègre dans le discours généralisé sur les prisons).
