The present invention relates to a method for operating an image display apparatus, and in particular to a method for operating an image display apparatus having a display unit including the steps of: obtaining uncompressed audio-visual content; replaying the uncompressed audio-visual content through the display unit; extracting at least one of video feature information and audio feature information on the basis of some of the uncompressed audio-visual content; obtaining content information on the uncompressed audio-visual content through responses to queries including at least one of the video feature information and the audio feature information; obtaining a supplementary service on the basis of the content information; and replaying the supplementary service through the display unit.
