Nach der Schließung der Hütte erwarb Karl Gustav Schmidt die noch vorhandenen Schuttberge, um die Schlacke zukünftig als Original Aachener Rothe Erde für Sportplätze in ganz Europa, darunter das Berliner Olympiastadion von 1936, aber auch das ehemalige Fußballstadion von Borussia Dortmund, das Stadion Rote Erde, zu vermarkten.

After the closure of the mill, the remaining slag mounds were acquired by a local businessman to be used in sports venues around Europe under the name of Original Aachener Rothe Erde, including the Berlin Olympic Stadium built in 1936 and the former stadium of Borussia Dortmund, known as the Stadium Rothe Erde.
