Durch statistische Auswertung insbesondere der von den HELIOS-Raumsonden gewonnenen Daten untersuchte er in seinen Studien die Eigenschaften der dreidimensionalen Strömungsstrukturen des Sonnenwindes und entdeckte dabei Besonderheiten der anisotropen, radialen Entwicklung der Geschwindigkeitsverteilungsfunktionen der Protonen und Alphateilchen.

Through statistical analysises, in particular of the data obtained from the HELIOS spacecraft, he studied in his research the properties of the three-dimensional flow structures of the solar wind and discovered special features of the anisotropic, radial development of the velocity distribution functions of protons and alpha particles.
