Since 2005, the momentum has accelerated, aided by Kenya’s improved economic growth rate; faster customs clearance due to the introduction of computerization; and the completion of important projects at the port, notably the extension of the container terminal, made possible by the new franchise granted to KPA, allowing it to borrow money from local financial institutions.
