Inspired by the scales, harmonies and tones of the impressionists (Debussy, Satie, Ravel), the subject was a big revolution and was later used (often uncredited) in a multitude of compositions of jazz, soundtracks, ballets, etc. It is my favorite composition of Evans, and listening to it again some months ago, brought me to mind the essay “In praise of shadow” from the Japanese writer Yunichiro Tanizaki, a manifesto on Japanese aesthetics on the light and his absence, a subject that has always interested me.

Inspirado en las escalas, armonías y tonalidades de los impresionistas (Debussy, Satie, Ravel), el tema supuso una auténtica revolución y fue usado posteriormente (muchas veces sin acreditar) en multitud de composiciones de jazz, bandas sonoras, ballets, etc. Es mi canción preferida de Evans y, escuchándola de nuevo hace algunos meses, me trajo a la mente el ensayo “Elogio de la sombra” del escritor japonés Yunichiro Tanizaki, un manifiesto sobre la estética japonesa de la luz y su ausencia, una materia que siempre me ha interesado.
