The story goes that in the year 1346 the Princess Constanza, daughter of Pedro III "the Ceremonious," was strolling through the Ribera District looking for bargains in the Jewish market... Attracted by a ruckus in a corner of it, she discovered a shipwrecked sailor on the beach, clinging to life, gravely wounded... He turned out to be from Genoa, the only survivor of a shipwrecked vessel on which he served as a cook.

Cuentan que, allá por 1346, la princesa Constanza, hija de Pedro III el Ceremonioso, paseaba por el barrio de la Ribera buscando gangas en el mercado judío... Atraída por el trajín en un rincón del mercado, descubrió la presencia de un náufrago en la playa, casi sin vida, malherido... Resultó ser un navegante genovés, único superviviente del naufragio del barco en que servía de cocinero.
