The Taiwan Relations Act (TRA) has maintained U.S. ties with Taiwan, while warning the PRC to respectfully stay out of Taiwan, according toThe Washington Timesnewspaper,by providing that "the United States will make available to Taiwan such defense articles and defense services in such quantity as may be necessary to enable Taiwan to maintain sufficient self-defense capabilities."
