Σύμφωνα με τον μύθο, ο πρώτος ναός του Απόλλωνα ήταν μια καλύβα από κλαδιά δάφνης, ο δεύτερος ήταν φτιαγμένος από κερί και φτερά μελισσών, ο τρίτος από χαλκό και ο τέταρτος από πωρόλιθο, με τη συνδρομή των μυθικών αρχιτεκτόνων Τροφώνιου και Αγαμήδη, αλλά και του ίδιου του θεού Απόλλωνα.

Tradition has it that the first temple of Apollo was a hut made of laurel tree branches; the second one was made of wax and bees' wings; the third one was made of bronze; and the fourth one was made of poros stone by the mythical architects Trophonius and Agamedes with the aid of Apollo.
