The 20th of May of the year 1293, King Sancho IV of Castile founded the "Studies of General Schools of Alcalá", which later on was replaced by the current University Comlutense. During the academic year of 1509-1510 five faculties were already operating: Art, Theology, Canonical Law, Philology and Medicine.
